Anna Kendrick is heading to space. The “Pitch Perfect” star has signed on to topline sci-fi thriller “Stowaway” for XYZ Films, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Joe Penna (“Arctic”) is directing.
The pic sees the Oscar-nominated actress playing a medical researcher aboard a spaceship traveling to Mars. While in transit, the crew “discovers an accidental stowaway shortly after takeoff. Too far from Earth to turn back and with resources quickly dwindling, [Kendrick’s character] emerges as the only dissenting voice against the group consensus that has already decided in favor of a grim outcome.”
Kendrick received an Oscar nod for 2009’s “Up in the Air.” She starred in all three installments of the “Pitch Perfect” franchise. The musical comedies about an a cappella group have raked in more than $587 million worldwide.
In 2016 Kendrick released “Scrappy Little Nobody,” a collection of autobiographical essays.
The “Twilight” alumna can currently be seen in “A Simple Favor,” a dark comedy about a mommy blogger searching for her missing best friend. Blake Lively co-stars in the Paul Feig-directed film.
Kendrick’s upcoming projects include “Noelle,” a comedy about Santa’s daughter, and “Trolls World Tour.”
