Anne Hathaway is making a big move into genre both on screen and behind the scenes.
The Oscar-winning actress and writer-director Jac Schaeffer are close to making the sci-fi action-comedy "The Shower" happen for Warner Bros. Compared to "This is the End," "Attack the Block" and "Bridesmaids," Schaeffer’s Black List script centers on a baby shower that gets interrupted by an alien invasion. Hathaway will produce the picture.
"Jac has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centered around funny, fully dimensional female characters," commented Hathaway previously. "I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen." Schaeffer’s previous film was the sci-fi-tinged indie rom-com "TiMer," so it’s great to (finally) see a female filmmaker make that leap from tiny-budget debut to studio action follow-up.
Hathaway is also attached to star in a sci-fi action film called "Colossal," which THR describes as being about "a woman who discovers that severe catastrophic events are somehow connected to the mental breakdown from which she’s suffering."
