TIFF’s Media Inclusion Initiative (MII) is now accepting applications for its inaugural Media Mentorship Program.
Launched in conjunction with last year’s Share Her Journey campaign and programs, the MII provides aid and greater access to underrepresented individuals in the film community. Its efforts include helping women, people of color, LGBTQ+ folks, and those with accessibility needs receive festival transportation, accommodation, and press credentials.
The Media Mentorship Program is an extension of these efforts, offering 10 participants the chance to network with and learn from experienced members of the press. Participants will receive press office support and tickets to both opening night events and a media brunch with programmers, as well as be paired with a press mentor from an established publication.
The program is open to journalists attending TIFF for the first or second time. Applicants must identify as underrepresented, have less than five years experience in the media, and must already be fully accredited to attend the festival.
Participants will connect with their mentors prior to the festival. Mentors will provide attendance advice, facilitate a coffee meet-up, and will suggest two to three films to attend together.
TIFF 2019 runs from September 5-15. Applications for the Media Mentorship Program are due August 19. Interested applicants may apply here.
