Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Tyler and frequent Booker Prize finalists Sara Waters and Ali Smith are among the authors shortlisted for the 2015 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction.
Tyler’s “A Spool of Blue Thread,” Sara Waters’ “The Paying Guests” and Smith’s “How to be Both” are among the works eligible for the prestigious award, which comes with a £30,000 cash prize and a bronze trophy known as a Bessie.
The other Baileys finalists are Rachel Cusk’s “Outline,” Laline Paull’s “The Bees” and Kamila Shamsie’s “A God in Every Stone.”
Established in 1996 as the Orange Prize, the Baileys recognizes literary achievements for their “excellence, originality and accessibility.”
Previous Baileys winners include Eimear McBride’s “A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing,” Zadie Smith’s “On Beauty,” Lionel Shriver’s “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” and Andrea Levy’s “Small Island.”
This year’s winner will be named on June 3.
