One of our favorite women directors, Ava DuVernay has had an incredible year. And the accolades for DuVernay’s work, keep on rightly coming.
Heineken, alongside the Tribeca Film Institute, have created the Heineken Affinity Award–given to an African-American filmmaker in order to empower and encourage their work. DuVernay is the first to receive the award. She will receive $20,000 and year round support and professional development from TFI. She was chosen by a public vote on the Heineken Affinity Award website. All the award finalists will also receive $1,000 grants.
Pattie Falch, Brand Director of Sponsorships and Events, released a statement about DuVernay’s win.
We could not be more pleased to name such a talented and dedicated filmmaker as the winner of the first ever Heineken Affinity Award. Heineken offers exceptional and unique experiences to our consumers and Ava does the same with her creative vision. We know she will go far with the funding and support we are able to provide along with the Tribeca Film Institute.
DuVernay’s next project, Part of the Sky, is currently in development.
