Barbra Streisand is taking her relationship with Netflix to the next level. The EGOT-holder premiered a new concert doc on the streamer last November, and now she’s signed a new content deal with the company.
“Netflix audiences worldwide will soon enjoy a fresh selection of content from the Streisand library including award-winning ‘My Name Is Barbra’ (1965), ‘Color Me Barbra’ (1966), ‘Barbra Streisand: A Happening in Central Park’ (1968), ‘Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments’ (1973), ‘Barbra Streisand: The Concert’ (1994), and ‘Barbra Streisand: Timeless’ (2001),” a press release has announced.
Steisand fanatics will be pleased to hear that Netflix is also presenting a special edition of “A Star is Born,” the classic Oscar-winning 1976 film about the romance between a washed up rockstar and an up-and-coming singer. This version of the pic includes never-before-seen footage of Streisand performing an instrumental version of “Evergreen” for the first time, and an extended take on the “With One More Look At You/Watch Closely Now” medley finale.
While she wouldn’t be credited as a director until 1983’s “Yentl,” Streisand first demonstrated her artistic vision on “A Star Is Born.” The film was helmed by Frank Pierson, but Streisand had the final cut. “That was tough because I was blackmailed into hiring [Pierson],” she’s revealed. “I hired him to write and he said he wouldn’t do it unless he directed. I had final cut rights. I told him he could have all the credit, but that he had to allow my vision to be there. He would agree, but then I’d show up and the cameras would be in [the wrong places].”
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper star in an upcoming remake of the pic. It’s set to hit theaters October 5.
Among countless other honors, Streisand has won two Oscars, five Emmys, eight Grammys, and a a Tony. She’s recorded 52 gold albums, and is the only artist in history to achieve a No. 1 album in six consecutive decades.
