Bette Midler has broken a record. As Deadline reports, her upcoming Broadway revival of “Hello, Dolly!” has already banked $9.08 million in ticket sales, and the show won’t even open for months.
The record is not only for the Shubert Theatre, where the production will begin previews on March 15, 2017, but for all of Broadway first-day ticket sales.
“We are thrilled with the tremendous response from ‘Hello, Dolly!’ ticket-buyers. The combination of this show and Bette Midler has proven irresistible to theatergoers,” said Philip J. Smith and Robert Wankel, chairman and president of the Shubert Organization.
Midler last appeared on Broadway in 2013, starring in “I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers,” where she played the legendary Hollywood superagent. She made her Broadway debut in 1966 in “Fiddler on the Roof.”
With these kinds of ticket sales, it’s safe to say that once the show actually opens, Midler will do even bigger business.
