Chime for Change, an organization that promotes education, health and justice for women founded by Beyonce, Salma Hayek and Gucci designer, Frida Giannini, held a concert Sound of Change over the weekend in London.
The benefit concert, described as a ‘female Live Aid,’ was headlined by Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez. It was a star-studded affair with additional performances by Duran Duran, John Legend, Iggy Azalea amongst others. Celebrities like Madonna, Jessica Chastain, Zoe Saldana, Ryan Reynolds and many others including feminist icon Gloria Steinem spoke out about the importance of supporting women’s rights.
The concert raised over $4 million dollars which will go funding 200 projects in about 70 countries.
It was broadcast to more than 150 countries around the world who were exposed to issues of genital mutilation, domestic violence, illiteracy and other issues effecting women.
We love when celebrities come together to use their power and influence to make a difference.
