“Captain Marvel” features Brie Larson playing a costumed crusader in the throes of an intergalactic war but her next project sees her going undercover for the CIA. The Oscar-winning “Room” star has signed on to topline and exec produce an untitled Apple drama, Variety reports.
Based on the experiences of CIA undercover operative Amaryllis Fox and her upcoming memoir “Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA,” the project has received a straight-to-series commitment.
Fox’s book hits shelves October 15,
Lynette Howell Taylor is also among the show’s exec producers. Megan Martin (“Animal Kingdom”) is “in final negotiations to write and executive produce the series,” the source details.
Larson’s previous small screen credits include “United States of Tara” and “Raising Dad.” “The Glass Castle” and “Kong: Skull Island” are among her most recent films. Her feature directorial debut, “Unicorn Store,” hits Netflix April 5. Larson stars in the comedy about an art student who dreams of owning a unicorn.
“The very nature of [‘Captain Marvel’] means that I’m having conversations that I’d like to have about what it means to be a woman,” Larson has said. “What strength looks like, the complexities of the female experience, female representation. It’s surprising and cool that [for] my first giant movie I get to be having those kinds of conversations. But that’s also why I’ve waited and been particular about what jobs I do,” the Time’s Up supporter explained.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Carol Danvers origin story “Captain Marvel” opens March 8.
