“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” collaborators Melissa Fumero and Vanessa Ramos are teaming up for another comedy. The respective star and writer-producer of the recently concluded law enforcement sitcom will work together on Netflix’s “Blockbuster,” Deadline reports. Ramos created the series — which, somewhat ironically, is a streaming show about America’s last Blockbuster Video — and Fumero will star alongside Randall Park (“Always Be My Maybe”).
Hailing from Universal Television, “Blockbuster” is a 10-episode single-camera workplace comedy that “explores what it takes — and, more specifically, who it takes — for a small business to succeed against all odds,” the source describes. “Fumero will play Eliza, a dedicated mother whose marriage to her high school sweetheart is on the rocks. She left Harvard after one semester to start a family and now works at Blockbuster alongside Timmy (Park) as his trusty Number 2 — and maybe more.”
Jackie Clarke (“Kenan”) and David Caspe (“Black Monday”) will write and executive produce with Ramos.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” ended in September after eight seasons. Set at a NYPD precinct, the show famously retooled its storylines in response to 2020’s Black Lives Matter protests.
Fumero’s other credits include “Diary of a Future President” and “Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.” Next on her slate is breakup comedy pic “Bar Fight.”
“Kenan,” “Crashing,” and “Superstore” are among Ramos’ previous writing and producing credits.
