Another day, another TV project from Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories. Last week we reported the company would be adapting Signe Pike’s “The Lost Queen” for the small screen, and now Made Up Stories has revealed it will be doing the same with “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.” From first-time novelist Holly Ringland, the coming-of-age novel was published in the author’s native Australia, the UK, and Canada earlier this year. It hits U.S. shelves March 5, 2019.
“The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” centers on “a young girl whose violent childhood casts a dark shadow over her adult life,” a press release summarizes. “After a family tragedy, nine-year-old Alice Hart is taken in by her estranged grandmother, June, a flower farmer who raises Alice on the language of Australian native flowers, a way to say the things that are too hard to speak.”
Papandrea will produce the project with Made Up Stories’ Jodi Matterson, Casey Haver, and Steve Hutensky.
“Holly has created a distinctive and powerful novel that is a compelling tale of female resilience,” Papandrea stated. “This story is told with authenticity, courage, and love and we are thrilled to be bringing it to the screen.”
“We were completely struck by Holly’s unique and imaginative story which reveals one’s capacity to overcome tragedy. Entwined with the healing power of nature and set in the vast beauty of the Australian landscape, Alice Hart’s story will make a stunning adaptation,” Matterson added.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled that ‘Lost Flowers’ will be adapted for screen by Made Up Stories,” Ringland agreed. “This women-driven production company is exactly the place for Alice Hart to come to life.”
“The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” and “The Lost Queen” are just the latest literary TV adaptations Papandrea and Made Up Stories have in the works. They’ve also acquired the rights to Allison Pearson’s “How Hard Can It Be?”, Jessica Knoll’s “The Favorite Sister,”and Karin Slaughter’s “Pieces of Her” with plans to develop them as television projects.
The second season of “Big Littles Lies,” TNT drama “Tell Me Your Secrets,” Catherine Zeta-Jones beauty pageant comedy series “Queen America,” and female astronaut drama “Pale Blue Dot” are among the other titles on Papandrea’s docket. Her previous producing credits include “Wild” and “Gone Girl.”
