Bryce Dallas Howard’s feature narrative directorial debut is on the way. The “Jurassic World” actress and “Dads” helmer is set to produce and direct a gender-swapped re-imagining of “Flight of the Navigator” for Disney+. Deadline confirmed the news.
Released in 1986, the original sci-fi pic is set in 1978 and centers on a 12-year-old boy who travels eight years into the future after being abducted by an alien spaceship.
Howard and Disney+ share a history. The “Rocketman” star directed two episodes of “The Mandalorian” and an episode of “The Book of Boba Fett,” its upcoming spinoff series. Her first doc, “Dads,” a portrait of contemporary fatherhood, launched on Apple TV+ in 2020. You can catch the multi-hyphenate on-screen next in “Jurassic World: Dominion,” slated to hit theaters June 10, 2022. “Black Mirror,” “The Help,” and “Spider-Man 3” are among Howard’s other acting credits.
