Singer-songwriter Carly Simon is writing a memoir.
While many outlets have giddily speculated that the inspiration for “You’re So Vain” will be revealed in the book, Simon’s description of the memoir, her first, makes the project sound less concerned with naming names than with self-exploration.
“This book is my way of going back through my childhood, my music, my romances, my marriage… and trying to make sense of it all,” said the two-time Grammy winner in a statement. “I’ve been working on it for so long that it feels like my third child… but now it’s time to send that child out in the world. It’s one of the most frightening — and exciting — things I’ve ever done.”
“Boys in the Trees” will tackle everything from Simon’s experience growing up to her father, Richard L. Simon, a co-founder of Simon & Schuster. The singer will also address her illustrious career and past relationships, including her decade-long marriage to musician James Taylor.
“’Boys in the Trees’ is unlike any memoir I’ve ever read by a well-known personality,” boasted Bob Miller, president and publisher of Flatiron Books.“ Carly Simon is honest here to the point of vulnerability, sharing her deepest desires, regrets and fears along with her triumphs as a musician and a woman. We feel very lucky to be her publisher.”
You can buy a copy of “Boys in the Trees” beginning November 24.
