Anne Hathaway has signed on to MGM’s upcoming “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” remake, now titled “Nasty Women.” And speaking of nasty women, two of our favorites from the small screen, “UnREAL’s” Rachel (Shiri Appleby) and Quinn (Constance Zimmer), will be joined by a female suitor on the upcoming season of the reality show they work on, “The Bachelor” and “Bachelorette”-inspired “Everlasting.” And now we know who will play the role: “Masters of Sex” star Caitlin FitzGerald.
Oscar winner Hathaway joins Rebel Wilson (the “Pitch Perfect” franchise) in the new version of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” the 1988 comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine. “Nasty Women” “will feature two women from different walks of life teaming up to con a tech prodigy out of his money,” The Hollywood Reporter writes.
The script was penned by Jac Schaeffer, whose writing Hathaway is evidently a big fan of. Schaeffer also penned the script for “The Shower,” an upcoming comedy Hathaway is starring in and producing. The film centers on a baby shower that gets party-crashed by alien invaders.
Hathaway’s recent credits include “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” “Interstellar,” and Nancy Meyers’ “The Intern.”
As for FitzGerald’s gig on the third season of Lifetime’s “UnREAL,” few details are available. We know she’s playing the first-ever female suitor on “Everlasting,” but not much beyond that. It is, however, safe to assume that whoever FitzGerland portrays, she’s bound to clash with Rachel and/or Quinn, as the two producers will be relentless in their attempts to manipulate her for ratings.
We’ll have to wait to see whether FitzGerland’s character is truly looking for love or if she has ulterior motives, like last season’s suitor, a secretly injured football star who needed to improve his public image.
“UnREAL” has a new showrunner for its third season, which begins production in February. Stacy Rukeyser, an executive producer who has worked on the show since the beginning, has taken on the role. The Emmy-nominated series was created by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro.
