Kate Beckinsale will topline Catherine Hardwicke’s next feature. Deadline reports that the pair are teaming up for “Prisoner’s Daughter,” a family drama about a “tough but proud ex-con who’s struggling to find a way to reconnect with his only daughter and grandson; once he begins an attempt at reconciliation, his violent past once again catches up to him.”
“Mark Bacci’s script is a raw, personal look at a deeply fractured family, similar to my first film ‘Thirteen’ (with Evan Rachel Wood and Holly Hunter),” said Hardwicke. “With ‘Prisoner’s Daughter,’ I want to fully immerse the viewer in Kate’s character’s intense world as she, her father, and her young son try to heal generational family trauma and find a new way forward.”
Hardwicke most recently helmed Gina Rodriguez-starrer “Miss Bala,” a thriller about a woman kidnapped by a cartel in Tijuana. Her biggest box office hit, “Twilight,” took in over $407 million worldwide. “Miss You Already” and “Lords of Dogtown” are among her other features. She’s joining forces with Eva Longoria, Cara Delevingne, and others for “Women Stories,” an anthology feature. Her small screen credits include “Don’t Look Deeper” and “This Is Us.”
Best known for her starring role in the “Underworld” franchise, Beckinsale’s other credits include “Love & Friendship,” “Serendipity,” and “Pearl Harbor.”
