Catherine Hardwicke is reuniting with bloodsuckers. The “Twilight” helmer has been tapped to direct The CW’s “Lost Boys” pilot, Deadline confirms.
An adaptation of the beloved 1987 horror comedy pic, “Lost Boys” is penned by Heather Mitchell (“Scandal”). The series is set in Santa Carla, a beautiful seaside town with a picture-perfect boardwalk and a secret underworld of vampires. “After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael (Tyler Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy (Kiele Sanchez), who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers soon find themselves being drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead,” the source summarizes.
Hardwicke’s first foray into the vampire genre, 2008’s “Twilight,” grossed over $393 million worldwide on a budget of $37 million. Her most recent feature, Gina Rodriguez-starrer “Miss Bala,” is in theaters now. The crime thriller sees the “Jane the Virgin” actress going undercover in a cartel. On the small screen, Hardwicke’s credits include “This Is Us” and “Eyewitness.” She’s directing Syfy’s pilot for “The Raven Cycle,” a fantasy about a girl from a family of psychics.
“It’s crazy that people think women can’t direct action; I love action and one of my first jobs was in visual effects,” Hardwicke has said. “Because of this, we need to break down these stereotypes for the future,” she emphasizes. Her next pic, “Dissonance,” is another genre story, and centers on a young woman who can walk between alternate realities.
