Nicole Holofcener’s untitled new project began principal photography on Monday in Los Angeles. The film will be distributed by Fox Searchlight.
Catherine Keener — who has been in all of Holofcener’s films — and Toni Collette are the most recent additions to the already epic cast including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Gandolfini, Ben Falcone, Eve Hewson and in her film debut, Rookie Magazine founder and fashion blogger, Tavi Gevinson. Just recently it looked like Keener would not be in the film with Annette Bening in discussions for the role, but it looks like it is official that Keener and Holocener will continue their streak of working together.
Holofcener will be directing the project which she also wrote. The Hollywood Reporter says that the film will focus on a recent divorcee (Louis-Dreyfus), who is trying to figure out her next step in life. She meets a woman (Keener) who is what she envisions her perfect self as. When she begins seeing a new love interest (Gandolfini), she is thrown and things become complicated when she learns that he is her new friend and ideal’s ex. The film follows her as she tries to juggle both these new relationships.
Nicole’s longtime producer, Anthony Bregman, said:
The folks at Fox Searchlight have wanted to work with Nicole for years and she came up with this funny, heartbreaking story about people trying to live with and without each other. It’s as full of life and truth as plums in a plum pudding.
The film will shoot throughout August and September.
This project has just jumped to the top of our list of anticipated future films list. A Holofcener written and directed movie is always interesting and she keeps getting better with time. Please Give was one the best films of 2010 and Holofcener was nominated for several writing awards. She always gets top tier casts because her scripts are so good and it will be great to see Louis-Dreyfus and Collette join her long time muse Catherine Keener. And we’ll be interested to see “rookie” actress, Tavi Gevinson, in her acting debut.
