More information has been revealed about Spare Rib, an upcoming reproductive rights celebration hosted by the Society for Ethical Culture. Gloria Steinem will host the event honoring the work of Dr. Willie Parker, who, Broadway World reports, is an “abortion provider to underserved communities in the American South.” The evening will feature a performance by Grammy-winning cabaret star Lady Rizo as well as a reading of Winter Miller’s play “Spare Rib,” for which the complete cast has been announced.
Opening remarks will be provided by Samantha Bee. The reading will be directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt (“Cal in Camo”) and the cast, as outlined by Broadway World, includes Elizabeth Marvel (“House of Cards”), Marin Ireland (“Masters of Sex”), Mamie Gummer (“The Good Wife”), Mozhan Marnò (“The Blacklist”), Deirdre O’Connell (“The Way West”), Kate Rigg (“The Jammer”), and Vella Lovell (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”).
Spare Rib will take place in Manhattan on June 16. Funds raised at the event will go towards supporting abortion clinics associated with Dr. Parker, Access Reproductive Care-Southeast, and “Spare Rib.”
General admission tickets begin at $25, with VIP tickets beginning at $100. Complimentary tickets are available online to those who have worked or volunteered at an abortion clinic, or have had an abortion.
You can buy tickets here. There’s also an option to donate if you are unable to attend but would like to support the cause.
