Roseanne Liang has lined up yet another project. Already attached to direct a feature version of her short “Do No Harm” as well as thriller “Fuse,” the Chinese-New Zealand filmmaker is now signed on to direct Chloë Grace Moretz-starrer “Shadow in the Cloud.”
The action horror story sees “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” actress playing Captain Maude Gardner, who “boards a B-17 Flying Fortress, clutching a black radio bag with top secret contents and orders authorizing her transport,” according to a press release announcing the film. “As Maude puts up with jeers from the leery, all-male crew, strange happenings begin to occur and they realize that something is lurking within the shadows. Crushed between an oncoming Japanese ambush and an evil prowling within, Maude must push her limits to save the hapless crew and to protect her mysterious cargo.”
Kelly McCormick (“Atomic Blonde”) is among “Shadow in the Cloud’s” producers.
Liang’s first feature, “My Wedding and Other Secrets,” became New Zealand’s highest grossing local feature film in 2011. Her 2017 Sundance short “Do No Harm” is set in 1995 Chinatown and tells the story of a surgeon who breaks her physician’s oath to save someone she loves. No word on when to expect the feature version of the project. According to IMDb, Liang is currently in pre-production on “Fuse,” an action pic about a government assassin with split personality disorder.
Moretz most recently starred in the “Suspiria” remake alongside Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton. She’ll be seen next in “Greta,” a campy thriller about a young woman who befriends a lonely widow and gets more than she bargained for. It hits theaters March 1.
