“Bad Moms'” PTA extraordinaire Christina Applegate is the latest actor to join the ever-growing Netflix family. Deadline reports that Applegate has signed on to star in and exec produce the streaming network’s newest half-hour dark comedy series, “Dead to Me.”
Penned and exec produced by “2 Broke Girls” writer Liz Feldman, — who will also serve as showrunner — “Dead to Me” features Applegate as a outwardly stable woman secretly on the edge following her husband’s fatal hit and run.
The straight-to-order series is produced by Gloria Sanchez productions, a company focused on female comedy projects established by Jessica Elbaum, Adam McKay, and Applegate’s “Anchorman” costar Will Ferrell. Gloria Sanchez productions is also producing Paramount’s English-language remake of Maren Ade’s “Toni Erdmann.” Kristen Wigg and Jack Nicholson have signed on to star.
“Dead to Me” marks Applegate’s return to television after six years. Her previous series credits include “Married… with Children,” the titular role in “Samantha Who?,” “Jesse,” and “Up All Night.”
Though further casting and a director have yet to be announced, “Dead to Me” is set to begin filming this fall in Los Angeles.
