Emma Holly Jones has recruited another “Crazy Rich Asians” cast member. The filmmaker is extending her short “Mr. Malcolm’s List” into a feature. Gemma Chan starred in the short, and while she’s not linked to the feature, Constance Wu just signed on to the period rom-com. Deadline broke the news.
Written by Suzanne Allain and based on her upcoming novel of the same name, “Mr. Malcolm’s List” sees Sope Dirisu playing Mr. Malcolm, “London’s most eligible bachelor. When Julia (Wu) is jilted by him after she failed to meet one of the items on his list of requirements for a bride, she enlists her friend Selina (Freida Pinto) to help her take revenge,” the source details.
Wu and Pinto are among the project’s exec producers.
Allain’s book will hit shelves July 28.
“Mr. Malcolm’s List” marks Jones’ feature debut. She’s also a producer on the project. Her short version of the story, which Women and Hollywood posted an exclusive trailer for, received over a million views on YouTube. Her other shorts include “They Grow Up” and “Everything Carries Me to You.”
Wu was last seen on the big screen in Lorene Scafaria’s “Hustlers.” She starred in “Fresh Off the Boat,” which concluded its six season run on ABC earlier this year.
Pinto appeared in the short version of “Mr. Malcolm’s List.” “The Path,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” and “Slumdog Millionaire” are among her other credits.
