Diane Warren has netted 11 Oscar nominations for penning various movies’ theme songs, and now there’s a movie in the works based on her original music. According to Deadline, the “Til It Happens to You” artist is working on a musical drama for Paramount alongside “After” screenwriter Tamara Chestna.
No plot details have been disclosed yet, but the as-yet untitled film will “be based on Warren’s catalog as well as new songs.” Warren is producing with Jody Gerson and David Blackman of Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment. Chestna will pen the script.
Chestna wrote “Moxie,” Amy Poehler’s upcoming Netflix pic about a teen who — inspired by her mother’s Riot Grrrl days — starts a feminist revolution at her high school. The film, adapted from Jennifer Mathieu’s novel of the same name, is now in post-production. Chestna served as exec producer on series “The Art of More.” Her other scripts include “Other People’s Love Letters” and “Revenge Wedding.”
Warren scored her 11th Oscar nod earlier this month. She was recognized for penning “I’m Standing With You” for Roxann Dawson’s faith-based film “Breakthrough.” “RBG’s” “I’ll Fight” and “Beyond the Light’s” “Grateful” are among the other tunes for which she’s received Academy Award nominations. Warren won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for “Burlesque’s” “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.” She also received a Grammy for writing Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me,” the theme song for 1996 feature “Up Close and Personal.”
A member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Warren has collaborated with the likes of Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, Cher, Aretha Franklin, Toni Braxton, and Mariah Carey. Recently she was named a Polar Music Prize Laureate. She will be presented with the award June 9 in Stockholm.
