Directors UK Launches New Mentorship and Career Development Program

Credit: Directors UK

Directors UK has launched a new initiative for its members. Directors UK Inspire: A Mentoring and Career Development Programme “aims to inspire and encourage directors across genres to seek structured support to enhance their career opportunities,” a press release details. Program applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Inspire’s next deadline is June 1, 2017.

Accepted Inspire applicants will enjoy a tailor-made mentorship experience. Each participant’s program will be designed based on his or her specific needs. The final product could include “opportunities to shadow on set, access to a production, general advice and guidance, support with your CV, pitching, gathering and maintaining contacts, networking, and more.”

Additionally, Directors UK will provide each participant £1,000 ($1,300 USD) towards travel costs, accommodation, and other expenses.

“It’s great to be able to build on the informal mentoring that a lot of the industry does at the moment; whilst offering guidance, structure, and importantly, funds to make new connections and opportunities possible,” commented Laura Adams, Head of Member Services at Directors UK. “We hope that this will encourage directors to reflect on the skills they have, and offer a way to access advice and experience.”

Directors UK launched the 4Stories project for emerging directors late last year. Participants will produce a three-part series of half-hour interconnected films, telling one main story from three different perspectives. The project will be broadcast on Channel 4.

Head over to Directors UK for more details on Inspire and the application process. You must be a member of Directors UK to apply.
