Disney has renewed “Elena of Avalor,” their Latina Princess TV series, for a second season, Variety has revealed.
As we previously reported when the series first premiered, the series is infused with Latin folklore and cultural traditions. Avalor has Aztec-inspired architecture. Episodes include original songs that reflect musical styles like mariachi, salsa, and Chilean hip-hop. The series premiered in July on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior. Variety writes that it became the year’s number one telecast among kid-targeted TV networks with 4.5 viewers.
“It’s just a few weeks into the launch of ‘Elena of Avalor’ and we are already seeing what an impact and connection she is making with kids and families. We’re eager to make sure that we will have many new stories of bravery, adventure and leadership for our audience to enjoy and are delighted to begin production on our second season and continue to find ways for her story to be heard both on and off screen,” said Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager of Disney Junior Worldwide.
On the same day that the renewal was announced, the character of Elena began appearing at Walt Disney World.
