The Academy Awards has an Oscar-winning producer on board. Donna Gigliotti will produce the upcoming 91st Oscars, a press release has announced.
A Best Picture winner for “Shakespeare in Love,” Gigliotti’s also received nods for “Hidden Figures,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” and “The Reader.” Overall, films she’s produced have earned a whopping 43 Oscar nominations.
“Donna Gigliotti has worked on some of the most celebrated films of our time and is uniquely qualified to bring her talent to the most anticipated awards show of the year,” said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment.
Gigliotti added, “I’m grateful to the Academy and ABC for entrusting me with this very special opportunity. I’m sure it will prove to be a humbling, exhilarating, and completely unique experience. Thankfully, I will have Glenn Weiss by my side every step of the way!”
Weiss is co-producing.
“I have the sense now that people in Hollywood understand that social relevance can turn into big box office,” Gigliotti recently observed. “Over the course of the last two years, it seems easier to get a movie made with an all-female cast or female leads.” She attributes the shift to Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman,” which had “both social impact and huge financial success.”
The Oscars are set to take place February 24, 2019. Nominations will be announced January 22.
