Ten features are set to screen in Edinburgh International Film Festival’s main competition this year, and six of them are directed or co-directed by women. The fest just announced its full lineup.
Titles in the main competition include Martika Ramirez Escobar’s “Leonor Will Never Die” and Amanda Kramer’s “Please Baby Please.” The former follows a retired filmmaker who falls into a coma after an accident, and the latter tells the story of newlyweds who have a sexual awakening. Also set to screen is “Nothing Compares,” Kathryn Ferguson’s documentary about “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer Sinéad O’Connor.
As previously announced, Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun,” the story of a young girl’s vacation with her father, will open the fest, which runs August 12-20.
