“Minx” has been given the green light. Ellen Rapoport’s half-hour comedy about the first women’s porn mag has received a 10-episode series order at HBO Max, and lined up its cast. A press release announced that Ophelia Lovibond (“Elementary”) will topline the show.
Set in ’70s Los Angeles, “Minx” sees a young feminist joining forces with a low-rent publisher to form the first erotic magazine for women. As previously reported, Rapoport is executive producing with Paul Feig. She is also serving as showrunner. Rachel Lee Goldenberg (“Unpregnant”) helmed and exec produced the pilot. Lionsgate Television is the studio.
Joining Lovibond in the main cast are Idara Victor (“Shameless”), Jessica Lowe (“Wrecked”), Lennon Parham (“Veep”), Jake Johnson (“New Girl”), Michael Angarano (“This Is Us”), and Oscar Montoya (“Reno 911”).
“I’m so grateful to Feigco, Lionsgate, and HBO Max for seeing the potential in this story from the first time I showed up in their offices with stacks of ’70s porn magazines,” Rapoport said. “Making ‘Minx’ with our ridiculously talented cast was a dream come true and I’m just thrilled that I get to do it again.”
Feig added, “We fell in love with Ellen’s trunkful of male nudie magazines and her amazing vision for this funny and liberating series the second we heard it and knew we needed a bold network partner to let us bring it to the screen as honestly as possible. With our powerhouse cast and brilliant director, it’s ‘Minx’ to the Max!”
Rapoport co-wrote Paramount’s “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” set to hit theaters November 5. She also penned Netflix rom-com “Desperados.” “Trying,” “Feel Good,” and “W1A” are among Lovibond’s credits.
Feig recently announced he’s working on a U.S. remake of Sharon Horgan’s BBC Two comedy “Motherland.” His directing credits include “A Simple Favor,” “The Heat,” and “Bridesmaids.” The “Freaks and Geeks” creator is a long-time advocate of gender equality in the entertainment industry, both on-screen and behind the scenes.
