Emayatzy Corinealdi is following up her role as an NFL exec on HBO’s “Ballers” by taking on another high-powered job in an NBC pilot. Deadline reports that Corinealdi has been tapped to lead “At That Age,” an ensemble drama penned by Carla Banks-Waddles.
Described as “an exploration of an African-American family’s legacy,” the project sees Corinealdi playing attorney Victoria Cooper-Hargrove, the “poised and overachieving middle child” in the Cooper family. After the family’s “golden child suffers a catastrophic event, seven family members face a foundational shift, make life-altering decisions, and deal with deep secrets coming to light,” the source hints.
Bank-Waddles, whose other credits include “Good Girls” and “Truth Be Told,” is among “At That Age’s” exec producers, as is Debra Martin Chase.
Corinealdi received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for her lead role in Ava DuVernay’s 2012 drama “Middle of Nowhere.” “The Red Line” and “Hand of God” are among her other credits.
“I already know the things that are important to me, the things that I believe in, the things that I stand for, and I take those with me in every role that I’m doing. It’s not something I feel pressured to be; I don’t feel like I need to be a strong black woman to make sure I’m a good example. It’s something that just is, will be,” Corinealdi has said.
