Emerald Fennell is offering a fresh take on an old classic. The Guardian reports that the former showrunner of “Killing Eve” has teamed up with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber on a new version of “Cinderella.” The production is slated to open this September at London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre.
A two-time Emmy nominee thanks to her work on “Killing Eve,” Fennell is credited with the original story and book for the musical.
“I have long wanted to write my own version of ‘Cinderella’ but could never find a take on the classic story that really grabbed me,” said Lloyd Webber. “Emerald Fennell has written something truly exciting and original, and the moment I read her outline I knew I’d found my latest collaborator.”
Fennel’s feature directorial debut, “Promising Young Woman,” hits theaters April 17. The Carey Mulligan-starrer tells the story of a woman who seeks out vengeance against the predatory men who cross her path. Fennell penned the script for the thriller.
“What I’m most interested in is how women win in a world where the deck is stacked against them,” Fennell has said.
Also an actress, Fennell’s on-screen credits include “The Crown,” “Vita & Virginia,” and “Call the Midwife.”
