Emma Westenberg will follow up her vulva-themed, Grammy-nominated collaboration with Janelle Monáe with her first studio feature. The “Pynk” music video director has been tapped to helm “Buffalo Flats” for MGM. Deadline broke the news.
Set amidst the world of NYC underground pop-up clubs, the pic centers on “a former tap prodigy who is forced to confront his stage past after meeting a tenacious law school-bound dancer at his grandmother’s studio.”
Westenberg’s first feature, 2018’s “Stranger’s Arms,” tells the story of friends who investigate a decades-old murder in their hometown.
“There’s no wrong or right in art, and you are the only one that is responsible for what you’re making,” Westenberg has said. “If you’re not the one that is driving and the force behind your art, it’s gonna be nobody.”
