This year marks the NFL’s 100th season. To celebrate, ESPN will debut “A Lifetime of Sundays,” an NFL Films documentary profiling four of the league’s female owners.
Narrated by Oscar winner Regina King and co-exec produced by Julie Haddon and Jane Skinner Goodell, the film features the “Fab Four of Football”: Virginia Halas McCaskey (Chicago Bears), Martha Ford (Detroit Lions), Patricia Rooney (Pittsburgh Steelers), and Norma Hunt (Kansas City Chiefs). Interviews, anecdotes from colleagues and loved ones, and archival footage will offer viewers an in-depth look at how much these women contributed to and changed the way of the game.
“The NFL’s centennial season is the perfect opportunity for us to tell compelling stories about this great game, and these four extraordinary women – whose lives have been defined by football – generously gave us unprecedented access sharing their deep and passionate connections to the NFL,” said Haddon, the NFL’s senior vp of Global Brand and Consumer Marketing. “Through their eyes, we are able to bring to life an important part of NFL history that has previously not been told. These women have blazed a trail, helping to shape their clubs, their communities, and the League, inspiring generations of women to come.”
ESPN’s exec vp of content Connor Schell added, “‘A Lifetime of Sundays’ is a special film that shines a light on four remarkable women who have had an enormous impact on the NFL, yet remain relatively unknown to many fans. We are thrilled to share their story as an important part of the NFL’s 100 years.”
ESPN recently announced its new docuseries, “Backstory,” will kick off with its Serena Williams episode, “Serena vs. The Umpire.” It will air this Sunday, August 18, on ABC and subsequently re-air across ESPN networks
“A Lifetime of Sundays” debuts on ESPN Sunday, August 25. It will play on ABC the following week and will hit streaming service ESPN+ shortly thereafter.
