As we previously reported, journalist Dolly Alderton is adapting her hit memoir “Everything I Know About Love” for television. Now there’s word the project — which has been been compared to “Sex and the City” — has found its leads and director. According to Deadline, “Diary of a Teenage Girl’s” Bel Powley and “The Witcher’s” Emma Appleton will star in the seven-part series, and China Moo-Young (“Harlots”) is directing.
“Everything I Know About Love” centers on Maggie (Appleton) and Birdy (Powley), who have been best friends since childhood. “Set in a 2012 London house-share with flashbacks to suburban adolescence in the early noughties, the series is an unflinching deep dive into bad dates, heartaches, and humiliations,” the source details.
Also joining the cast are Marli Siu (“Alex Rider”) and newcomer Aliyah Odoffin.
“I am beyond thrilled with every actor we have on board for ‘Everything I Know About Love,'” said Alderton, who is also among the project’s executive producers. “Aisha Bywaters has helped us find our dream cast and we are so excited to see them inhabit the world of the show and bring its stories and relationships to life.”
Production will kick off soon in Manchester and London, and the show is expected to air on the BBC next year. NBCUniversal International Studios’ Working Title Television is producing for BBC One, and NBCUniversal will distribute the series.
You can see Powley next in Season 2 of “The Morning Show,” premiering September 17 on Apple TV+. Her recent credits include “The King of Staten Island” and podcast “Soft Voice.” “The Last Letter from Your Lover,” “Traitors,” and “Genius: Picasso” are among Appleton’s credits.
Moo-Young previously directed Appleton in the series “Intergalactic.” Her directing credits also include episodes of “Humans,” “Call the Midwife,” and “Secret Diary of a Call Girl.”
