What better time to interact with a potential love interest than when you look “like death warmed over”? What begins as good-natured ribbing among friends transforms into something much more in an exclusive clip from Maïwenn’s “My King,” or “Mon Roi.”
The drama, which made its World Premiere at Cannes, centers on Tony (Emmanuelle Bercot), a lawyer recovering from a serious ski injury. While she mends at a rehab center, Tony reflects on her past, particularly her tumultuous relationship with Georgio (Vincent Cassel).
This clip from “My King” kicks off with Tony and her pals leaving the club after a night of partying. Before they part ways, Georgio enters the scene. While Tony’s friend compared her appearance to a zombie’s mere seconds ago, it’s clear that Georgio is attracted to her, and he asks her to join him for breakfast. The two have met previously, but it seems like they got off to a rocky start. Check out the scene to see how their romance unfolds.
Bercot, who is also a writer and director, was named Best Actress by Cannes for this performance. Maïwenn previously directed her in 2011’s “Polisse.” Bercot’s newest film, “150 Milligrams,” will make its World Premiere at TIFF September 13 and open the San Sebastian Film Festival three days later. The drama has been described as a French “Erin Brockovich.”
“My King” opens in LA August 26. It hit NY theaters August 12.
