“What are you doing to make things better?” asks Salma Hayek in Women and Hollywood’s exclusive clip of “The Roads Not Taken.” Written and directed by Sally Potter, the drama follows a day in the life of Leo (Javier Bardem) and his daughter, Molly (Elle Fanning), who struggles to make sense of her father’s chaotic mind.
“The Roads Not Taken” sees Leo considering the alternate lives he could have lived — including a life in Mexico instead of the States. The clip suggests that his imagined life south of the border is not without complications. He and Dolores (Hayek) seem to be at a crossroads, with each convinced that neither has the other’s best interests in mind.
“The Roads Not Taken” is making its World Premiere in Competition at the Berlinale on February 26. The program is composed of 18 titles, and six of them, or 33 percent, are directed or co-directed by women. The pic hits select U.S. theaters March 13. Laura Linney co-stars.
Potter’s most recent film, ensemble comedy “The Party,” premiered at the 2017 Berlinale. “Orlando” and “Yes” are among her other features.
