“The key to success is to look into the future and visualize what you want to become,” says Geena Davis in an exclusive new trailer for the 2019 Athena Film Festival. The actress and activist co-stars in “Don’t Talk to Irene,” one of the many titles screening at this year’s fest. Launched in 2009 by Women and Hollywood Founder and Publisher Melissa Silverstein and Kathryn Kolbert, the fest celebrates women and leadership with a program comprised of films by and about women, and takes place at Barnard College in New York City.
The trailer gives a taste of what to expect at Athena 2019. Among the titles set to screen are Wanuri Kahiu’s LGBTQ love story “Rafiki,” Paula Eiselt’s “93 Queen,” a documentary about Hasidic women who create the first all-female volunteer ambulance corps in New York City, and Marielle Heller’s Melissa McCarthy-starrer “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
Julia Hart’s unconventional superhero pic “Fast Color” is Athena’s Opening Night Film. The fest runs from February 28-March 3. Tickets and more information can be found on the festival’s website.
