Still mourning the cancellation of “Pitch” and hoping against hope for a revival? There’s no update on the future of the dearly departed Fox drama, but a new female-led baseball series is in the works over at ABC. Felicity Huffman has signed on to lead an untitled comedy “set in the world of minor league baseball” at the network, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Inspired by the life of Susan Savage, the owner of the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, the project hails from writer Becky Hartman Edwards, whose credits include “The Bold Type” and “The Baker and the Beauty.”
“A Secret Love,” one of the year’s best-reviewed documentaries, spotlights All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) alumna Terry Donahue and her partner of over 70 years, Pat Henschel. AAGPBL served as the inspiration for Penny Marshall’s 1992 classic “A League of Their Own.”
Huffman received an Oscar nod for her leading role in “Transamerica.” She won an Emmy for “Desperate Housewives” and also landed nods for “American Crime Story.” “When They See Us,” “Otherhood,” and “Tammy’s Always Dying” are among her most recent credits.
