“Fresh off the Boat” creator and showrunner Nahnatchka Khan just sold a script to Fox 2000. The studio has landed the rights to “Hair Wars” after an intense bidding war, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
According to THR, “It’s based on a real competition where hair salons face off. Sculptural hair is shown off through song and dance numbers as part of the competition. Sources say the pitch calls for diverse leads and the story explores identity.”
Khan’s “Fresh off the Boat” has been applauded as one of the recent series bringing more diversity to television. It focuses on a Taiwanese family living in the U.S. in the 1990s and stars Randall Park and Constance Wu. Khan also created “Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23.” “Fresh Off the Boat” has been renewed for a third season by ABC.
Khan’s script will be directed by Jason Moore, who previously directed “Pitch Perfect” and “Sisters ”starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
