Gabrielle Union isn’t letting “L.A.’s Finest’s” cancellation slow her down. The actress and producer just added another project to her packed slate. Variety reports that she and her I’ll Have Another Productions banner are developing a comedy series at Showtime.
Titled “New Money,” the project is “centered around Black women who have solidified their careers, achieved financial independence, and moved past the awkwardness and money struggles of their twenties. Now firmly in their 30s, the show’s central ladies must deal with the repercussions their ‘new money’ brings – including hangers-on, false friends, unwanted media attention, and greedy relatives – while also navigating the treacherous world of dating,” the source details.
Journalists Jemele Hill and Kelley Carter of Lodge Freeway Media brought the project to Union and join her as exec producers.
Spectrum cancelled Union and Jessica Alba’s “Bad Boys” spinoff, “L.A.’s Finest,” last month. The cop series for two seasons. “Being Mary Jane” and “Bring It On” are among Union’s best known credits.
Union has a slew of projects in development including a TV adaptation of Tanisha C. Ford’s memoir “Dressed in Dreams: A Black Girl’s Love Letter to the Power of Fashion.” She’s also starring in and producing “Jezebel” filmmaker Numa Perrier’s next pic, “The Perfect Find,” a Netflix rom-com about a woman looking for a fresh start with her new job in beauty journalism, and Deborah Riley Draper’s adaptation of “Coffee Will Make You Black,” a coming-of-age story about an African American teenage girl living in 1960s Chicago.
