The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling are heading to Sin City. Netflix has finally renewed “GLOW” for a third season, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Season 2’s finale concluded with the wrestlers boarding a bus from LA to Vegas. Ruth (Alison Brie), Debbie (Betty Gilpin), and Co. will be adapting their cancelled television show into a into a live nightly show in their new city.
“GLOW’s” second season dropped June 29. Since then, the critically acclaimed dramedy racked up 10 Emmy nominations, including a nod for Gilpin.
Set in 1985, “GLOW” is inspired by a real female-led wrestling series from the ’80s. The show sees mostly inexperienced women learning the ropes of professional wrestling, and follows the behind-the-scenes drama between Debbie and Ruth, former best friends whose relationship is in crisis after the former discovers the latter had an affair with her husband. The show’s ensemble cast also includes Marc Maron (“Maron”), musician Kate Nash, Sydelle Noel (“Arrow”), Britney Young (“Those Who Can’t”), and Ellen Wong (“Dark Matter”), among others.
Season 2 of the series tackled #MeToo themes and the AIDS epidemic.
“GLOW” was created by Liz Flahive (“Nurse Jackie”) and Carly Mensch (“Orange Is the New Black”).
Women directed 60 percent of both Season 1 and Season 2’s episodes. “GLOW’s” helmers include Lynn Shelton (“Outside In”), Meera Menon (“Equity), and Sian Heder (“Tallulah”).
