Less than a year after making the bone headed decision to cut A.J. Cook and then Paget Brewster from Criminal Minds it looks like they might be heading back into the BAU. The show did a really good arc (one of the most interesting on the show) to say farewell to Brewster and also brought in a newbie agent played by Rachel Nichols to shore up the female factor on the show.
But the show has suffered without Cook because as the press liaison she was the one who kicked off a lot of the stories. Also the fact that she was a mom on the show really humanized the overwhelming suffering that the show depicts week in and week out.
But now it seems that the creator of the show Ed Bernero is leaving the show and there is a female showrunner — Erica Messer — who was a longtime member of the show’s team.
It could be a coincidence but it is interesting to note that as a woman takes over she is thinking of bringing back several very much liked female characters.
