Hanelle M. Culpepper has another feature in the works. The prolific, history-making small screen helmer already has “1000 Miles,” a drama inspired by the true story of an enslaved couple’s escape to freedom, on the way, and now she’s signed on to direct “Coyote Blue.” Amazon Studios snagged rights to a pitch for the film in “a competitive situation,” per Variety.
“This Is Us'” Sterling K. Brown stars as an everyman “who’s hunted by a ruthless criminal syndicate for his mysterious cargo, and now must navigate the treacherous terrain of Route 66 while unleashing his lethal set of skills in a fight for survival.”
Culpepper’s extensive TV directing credits include “Kung Fu,” “Supergirl.” and “Empire.” She directed the first three episodes of CBS All Access’ Patrick Stewart-starrer “Star Trek: Picard,” making her the first woman director to launch a new “Star Trek” series in the franchise’s history. Her upcoming slate includes “Anansi Boys” and “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.” The former is an Amazon Studios series about the family of an African trickster god and the latter is an Apple TV+ series that tells the story of an elderly man with dementia who gets the opportunity to regain his memories.
