Another Oscar-winning actress is embarking on a mission to space. A trailer for Natalie Portman-led astronaut drama “Lucy in the Sky” launched in March, and now word comes that Hilary Swank is heading to Mars in upcoming Netflix series “Away.” Variety confirmed the news.
Loosely inspired by an Esquire article of the same name, “Away” tells the story of astronaut Emma Green, “who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous mission to the Red Planet,” according to Deadline. The drama is “described as being about hope, humanity, and how we need one another if we are to achieve impossible things.”
“The Path” creator Jessica Goldberg is serving as showrunner, writer, and exec producer. Swank is also among the project’s exec producers. As of now, “Away” has a 10-episode order.
Swank won her first Oscar in 2000 for “Boys Don’t Cry” and her second in 2005 for “Million Dollar Baby.” “Trust,” “What They Had,” and “55 Steps” are among her recent credits.
