Hillary and Chelsea Clinton are bringing their “favorite stories of courage and resilience” to Apple TV+. The mother-daughter duo will host and executive produce a docuseries adaptation of their 2019 tome, “The Book of Gutsy Women,” for the streamer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apple landed the project “in a competitive situation” and gave it a straight-to-series order.
Hidden Light Productions, which the Clintons launched with Sam Branson, is producing.
From Simon & Schuster, “Gutsy Women” sees the former Secretary of State, senator, and presidential candidate and her daughter sharing “stories of the gutsy women who have inspired them — women with the courage to stand up to the status quo, ask hard questions, and get the job done.” Harriet Tubman, Rachel Carson, Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie are among the book’s many subjects.
AppleTV+’s “Gutsy Women” event series will also likely showcase brave, trailblazing women, although “it is not yet clear who the TV iteration will include and the precise format it will take,” per the source.
Hillary Clinton is exec producing “The Women’s Hour,” an anthology about women’s fight for the vote that was optioned by The CW this fall. She was the subject of Nanette Burstein’s Hulu docuseries “Hillary” and has appeared as herself in projects such as “Broad City” and “Madam Secretary.”
Chelsea Clinton has penned children’s books including “She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World,” “She Persisted Around the World: 13 Women Who Changed History,” and “Grandma’s Gardens.” She collaborated with her mother on the latter.
