Issa Rae is sticking around HBO. The premium cable network has renewed “Insecure” for a third season, Variety reports. The critically acclaimed show’s second season premiered on July 23.
Co-created by and starring Rae, the comedy follows best friends Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) in both their professional and personal lives. The current season sees Issa dealing with the fallout of cheating on her long-term boyfriend who is now her ex, and lawyer Molly discovering that her white male colleague makes more money than she does.
Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming, stated that the network is “thrilled” that the sophomore season of “Insecure” connected with viewers so quickly.
Melina Matsoukas, Marta Cunningham, and Tina Mabry are among “Insecure’s” Season 2 directors. This season’s writers include Rae, Amy Aniobi, Dayna Lynne North, Laura Kittrell, and Regina Y. Hicks.
