Shawna and Mia are just warming up. The aspiring rappers will continue their journey in Season 2 of “Rap Sh!t.” Deadline reports that HBO Max has renewed the comedy.
Created by “Insecure” breakout and burgeoning mogul Issa Rae, “Rap Sh!t” is set in Miami and tells the story of Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), estranged high school best friends who reunite to form a rap group. Syreeta Singleton, a former writer on “Insecure,” serves as showrunner.
“We’re so happy to play in the world of ‘Rap Sh!t’ for another season with this incredibly talented team,” Rae said.
Singleton added, “This show and cast are one of a kind and I’m thrilled to get to do this again with them. We’re going bigger and harder.”
“Insecure” ran for five seasons on HBO, landing 14 Emmy noms and one win along the way. Rae’s other credits include exec producing “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and the upcoming “Project Greenlight” revival.
“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” was also recently renewed for a second season by HBO Max. The “Pretty Little Liars” reboot, created by Lindsay Calhoon Bring and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, follows high school girls who are being tormented by a mysterious assailant with a connection to their mothers’ past.
