Jaina Lee Ortiz is joining the Shondaland empire. The “Rosewood” actress will star in ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff in the works at Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, Deadline reports.
The as yet untitled series will see “Grey’s Anatomy” executive producer and co-showrunner Stacy McKee in the writer’s chair, and swaps the parent show’s hospital setting for a Seattle firehouse. The show will center around the firefighters’ life-and-death situations at work and their personal lives.
McKee, Rhimes, and Betsy Beers are among the project’s executive producers.
Ortiz — who previously appeared in the pilot for sci-fi drama “The After,” and is currently a series regular on the USA Network conspiracy thriller “Shooter” — is expected to be introduced to “Grey’s Anatomy” fans in an episode of the show this fall, before the spinoff gets underway mid-season.
