Another day, another reason to want to be best friends with Jennifer Lawrence. With Oscar nominations looming on January 10th, Lawrence, who is a nomination shoo-in for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, recently deemed acting “stupid” in her upcoming Vanity Fair cover story.
When asked about how she stays grounded despite her fame, Lawrence responded bluntly.
Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid. Everybody’s like, ‘How can you remain with a level head?’ And I’m like, ‘Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.
Despite her blunt and hilarious response about acting, it clearly doesn’t make Lawrence any less star-struck when it comes to her acting heroines. In the interview, Lawrence also mentions a hilarious anecdote about seeing Meryl Streep.
Once I’m obsessed with somebody, I’m terrified of them instantly. I’m not scared of them—I’m scared of me and how I will react. Like, for instance, one time someone was introducing me to Bill Maher, and I saw Meryl Streep walk into the room, and I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!,’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep.
When interviewer, Jim Windolf, asked Lawrence if she then spoke to Streep, she said: “Of course not. I just creepily stared at her.”
It’s so refreshing to hear an actress say what’s on her mind and also acknowledge the universal reaction to seeing Meryl Streep. Lawrence will be hosting Saturday Night Live on January 19th, something that we here at Women and Hollywood are really looking forward to.
