Jennifer Lopez Producing “Backwards in Heels,” Series About Iconic NYC Female-Only Residential Hotel

Lopez in "Shades of Blue"

Jennifer Lopez is bringing all of the glitz and glamor of the Barbizon Hotel to Prime Video. Deadline reports that Amazon landed “Backwards in Heels,” a Skydance TV series that counts Lopez among its producers, in a “competitive situation.” The show tells the “aspirational and timeless story” of the women living at the hotel in post-WWII New York City.

Located at 140 East 63rd St. on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the Barbizon Hotel was, for several decades, “a female-only residential hotel for young women who came to NYC for professional opportunities. Built in 1927, the 23-story hotel was a blend of Italian Renaissance and late Gothic revival and Islamic decorative elements. No men were allowed above the ground floor, and strict dress and conduct rules were enforced. Men began to be admitted as guests in 1981. Famous guests and residents throughout its history included Lauren Bacall, Betty Buckley, Joan Crawford, Rita Hayworth, and Grace Kelly, among several others,” the source details.

Lopez’s last pic, Kat Coiro rom-com “Marry Me,” was one of the most viewed movies ever on NBCUni’s Peacock streaming service. The “Hustlers” star and producer was honored with the the Icon Award at last week’s iHeartRadio Music Awards. Her upcoming slate includes Niki Caro’s “The Mother,” a thriller about an assassin, and Reed Morano’s “The Godmother,” a crime drama based on late drug lord Griselda Blanco.
