Whether she’s delivering a commencement speech to a class of one or recounting a marijuana-fueled presentation in her college Astronomy class, Jenny Slate can always be counted on to deliver the goods. The hilarious comedian and actress is set to offer audiences an “inside look” at her world in her first Netflix original comedy special.
Titled “Stage Fright,” the special includes footage of Slate’s stand-up set, personal clips of her childhood, and interviews with her family. A press release from the streamer announced that the special will launch globally on October 22 and will feature stories about Slate’s “visit to a midnight Catholic Mass and the ghosts that haunted her childhood home.”
“I had been unconsciously discouraged from using the word ‘feminist’ for a large portion of my formative years,” Slate has said. “I was a teenager in the ’90s. And somewhere in the zeitgeist was the word ‘feminazi.’ Now, I’m so focused on pulling out the roots of misogyny from my life. Because I think it’s in all of us. I think it’s deeply woven in, and you have to be super vigilant about it.”
“Venom,” “Gifted,” and “Obvious Child” are among Slate’s film credits. Her TV credits include “Parks and Recreation,” “Big Mouth,” and “House of Lies.” She’ll co-star in “On the Rocks,” Sofia Coppola’s upcoming feature about a young mom who reunites with her father.
