Two Oscar-winning actresses are teaming up. Jessica Chastain, who snagged Best Actress honors this year for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” and Anne Hathaway, the recipient of the 2013 Best Supporting Actress statuette for “Les Misérables,” will topline “Mothers’ Instinct,” a remake of the award-winning 2018 Belgium psychological thriller “Duelles.” Neon landed U.S. rights to the pic, which kicks off principal photography later this month. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
The pic, set in the early ’60s, sees Chastain and Hathaway playing “housewives, best friends, and neighbors” who live “an apparently idyllic, traditional lifestyle with manicured lawns, successful husbands, and sons of the same age. But when a tragic accident shatters the perfect harmony of their lives, guilt, suspicion, and paranoia begin to unravel their sisterly bond and a darker side of the maternal instinct emerges,” the source teases.
In addition to starring, Chastain and Hathaway will also produce.
Chastain also received Oscar nods for “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Help.” “The 355” and “Scenes from a Marriage” are among her recent credits.
Hathaway scored her first Oscar nom for “Rachel Getting Married.” More recently, she’s been seen in “WeCrashed” and “The Witches.”
